If you’ve been following us on Facebook, then you’ll have seen some of the exciting developments that have been taking place at Bertie’s. Our beautiful building is over 130 years old now and co-owner and Commercial Director, David Cooper, thought this glamorous grand dame deserved a makeover. We all love some ‘before and after’ pictures, so we thought we’d share a few with you and give you an update on the revamp.
Bertie’s Cocktail Lounge
Previously known as the Rennie Mackintosh room, we’ve brought our downstairs lounge right up to date, with a brand new bar and soft furnishings. We’ve gone for an elegant look with gold, Art Deco style panelling on the bar, but with modern LED lights that change colour or can be set to one colour to fit a theme.
Now, a Cocktail Lounge wouldn’t be complete without a selection of delicious cocktails, so all of our staff had a (very enjoyable) training session with a mixologist to learn how to make all the classics and a few special cocktails just for Bertie’s.
We’ve also expanded our range of craft ales and have installed a new till system throughout so that drinks can now be ordered at your table – saving you valuable socialising time!
Adjoining Bertie’s Cocktail Lounge is our outdoor terrace, which has now been weatherproofed by adding a canopy – and outdoor heating and furnishings are next on our list. Now you can enjoy a breath of fresh air and a more relaxed atmosphere during your event at Bertie’s.
Upstairs, our ballroom, which can seat up to 250 people, has also been treated to a makeover with a new bar and till system. The bar has a mirrored panel underneath featuring our logo, with opulent dark wood panelling surrounding it.
The last part of this phase of the refurbishment is the foyer, which is just being finished off with eye-catching flooring and new wallpaper, and our staircases have been restored to their former glory – so that from the moment you step into Bertie’s you are enveloped in luxury.
Discussing the building works, co-owner David Cooper, said:
“The refurbishment has gone well. We’ve used around six or seven local suppliers and Atlas Construction project managed the works and met our deadlines. We’ve had some great reactions from customers who are genuinely wowed when they arrive in our bright and airy reception and see the transformation.”
The company has invested over £85,000 in the renovations so far and their main concern was being respectful of the building and its heritage:
“Anyone who has been to Bertie’s knows that it’s a place where you get dressed up to go – it’s just got that feel about it. We wanted to give the venue a sophisticated and stylish look, but with a classic Deco mood.”
David adds that Bertie’s is seeking more staff to join the team to meet the increased demand in bookings, and,
“Next on our list is putting a new bar in No. 1 Brook Street, but we’ll start that after Christmas as we’ve got a packed programme of events and parties throughout autumn and the festive season.”
We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming events, including charity balls, black-tie functions, weddings, business conferences and our Christmas Parties and, new for this year, Christmas Day Lunch.
