Anyone for tea?
Afternoon tea is the quintessentially English way to spend a fabulous afternoon with friends and enjoy delicious, dainty delights. And now Bertie’s is opening up her doors from the 28th May to welcome guests to our new Coffee Lounge & Tea Room. Read on for a taste of what’s to come …
Coffee Lounge & Tea Room, Elland
Bertie’s has been in the heart of Elland for 35 years (and the magnificent Grade II Listed building much longer, since the 1850s). During this time it has evolved and tried many different concepts – a busy bistro, a fine dining experience and the go-to elegant venue for celebrations. We are now taking advantage of our beautiful, Victorian ground floor rooms to host a Coffee Lounge and Tea Room that is open to the public, five days a week from 10am to 4pm.
Serving award-winning gourmet coffees, loose teas (including Fortnum & Mason’s Royal Blend), handmade cakes and a range of afternoon teas, there’s something to tempt every taste bud. What’s more, you can enjoy your afternoon tea on vintage crockery, with crisp white tablecloths in the opulent surrounds of Bertie’s, either inside our lounge or on the outdoor patio (if the British summertime allows). The perfect setting for you to create special memories, share valuable family time or just escape from the world for a while.
Afternoon tea options
At Bertie’s, we don’t do things by half, so when we say we are doing afternoon tea it is going to be spectacular. You can choose from our afternoon tea menus of:
Traditional afternoon tea
How about Bolster Moor Farm ham, served on a white bloomer with plum tomato and grain mustard mayonnaise. Perhaps also beetroot and dill cured Scottish salmon on wholemeal bread. Not forgetting the egg mayonnaise and watercress, of course! Then we’re talking freshly baked scones with clotted cream and strawberry conserve, vanilla slices, red velvet cake, French fancies, chocolate opera cake and much more! All for £17.50 per person.
Yorkshire afternoon tea
Us Yorkshire folks like something a little heartier for our afternoon tea, so you’ll find rare roast beef, free range scotch eggs, fresh breads served with homemade pork dripping, Bolster Moor pork pies and picked onions included in this menu. Plus, all of the usual cakes and treats as well for £17.50 per person – and if you’re really in the mood then you can add a glass of Black Sheep beer or Shed Head craft ale to wash it down with (£21.50).
Vegetarian afternoon tea
Our refined vegetarian afternoon tea includes Park Head Farm ‘True Grit’ cheddar, served on a white bloomer with homemade chutney, free range egg mayonnaise with watercress and a rather refreshing avocado and cucumber sandwich served with cos lettuce, lemon and chilli mayonnaise on wholemeal bread. And a delicious selection of freshly made scones and miniature cakes including lemon meringue pie and seasonal fruit tart. £17.50 per person.
Gluten-free afternoon tea
People following a gluten-free diet can often feel forgotten when it comes to afternoon teas – well not at Bertie’s! You have your very own menu of delicious gluten-free treats that you can enjoy without having to worry about a thing. It includes locally dry cured ham loin, egg mayonnaise, beetroot and dill cured Scottish salmon, scones, pecan nut tart, baked vanilla cheese cake on a granola base, chocolate caramel shortbread, raspberry pavlova and a rich, dark, chocolate sponge brownie. £17.50 per person.
If you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary or just fancy an extra special treat, you can upgrade any afternoon tea to our champagne package and enjoy a glass of Belstar white or pink Prosecco. The champagne package is an extra £7.50
David Cooper, Co-owner and Commercial Director at Bertie’s, comments:
“Of course, we only know how to do things well at Bertie’s and we are really going for it with our afternoon tea offering, catering for vegetarian and vegan menus as well as a proper gentleman’s Yorkshire afternoon tea too. The location is stunning, especially with the outdoor patio area for the summertime. We are really looking forward to welcoming our community into our building to sample our delightful handmade cakes, fabulous coffee and loose teas.”
